So, I stumbled upon this overlooked, underrated gem because of research Im doing about psychedelic substances and Terence McKenna (look him up, youll understand). Im glad I did. I dont know where to start - colorful, fun, excellent gameplay, characters and storyline. Incredibly well implemented and runs great on my late 2011 Mini with a gamepad. There are some parts that caused my to LOL too. I havent played a platformer in YEARS. I think the last one I played thru was Voodoo Vince, and this game reminds me a lot of that game as far as characters and gameplay. Buy it. Well worth the $9.99

Good gawd this "game" is hideous. The graphics are horribly outdated, the gameplay is boring, and I just dont see the entertainment value in it. Its not even remotely challenging.

I have absolutely loved this game since its release on the PS2. reading through some of the reviews, it is somewhat apparent that not everyone knew this games origins. While I would love to say that a brilliant team came together to release this in the mac app store, it was originally developed for xbox, PS2, and PC. The game itself is iconic, a cult classic some consider it. It is loads of fun, especially if you hunt down all the cutscenes and talk to everyone at every time of day. Brilliant writing, fantastic gameplay, and now its playable on my mac, for the astounding price of 5 dollars. I honestly probably wouldnt pay much more than 10 or 15, considering I own it for playstation already, but it is definitely well worth the cost.

I read about all the download problems but "thought" they were fixed. They are not. After a 3 hour download time (high speed DSL) I thought the nightmare was over. Now its another 3 hours to extract the game. Obviously theres a problem. An Email to the games support team got me a "not my problem man, you bought it from Apple". So now after 6 hours and many emails I am still stuck with no game. Im at the point where I have to decide how many more hours of my life do I want to invest to get my $5 dollars back. The answer is zero. So congratulations game company (double fine productions). You screwed me out of a whole $5 dollars. Good for you but sooner or later Karmas gonna get ya.

OK, I saw the EuroGamer game of the year award, and all the positive ratings for this game. At the price it was worth a shot. My first impression was "OK, its sort of cute." After playing 40 minutes or so I was hooked! The graphics are OK, and serve the almost 3D cartoony atmosphere of the game. Its silly in places and worth a chuckle, and moderately hard in a few places (but with a piece of bacon you can get clues!). As each adventure starts to fill in the pieces the whole story all comes together and makes sense, in a not quite real world way. It’s quirky, original and fun. Be warned that it can be a bit addicting and I lost part of Memorial Day weekend to this game. I can’t wait to see what psychic powers I will get next, and how they will help me overcome obstacles that I’ve already seen and explore new places.

No need to repeat the glowing stories about how excellent the game is.... There are some glitches in getting into it though. When the game was "installing" it seemed to take a very long time. FInally, clicking on the dock icon stopped the installation and launched the game. Once in the game, it is not the easiest to navigate without some knowledge of the keys. But where do they put the manual? Hidden in c-drive folder in the Resources file deep in the app! (R-click app to Show Package Contents). Do they not want people to play this game?! Also, something makes the game fail to launch half the time, which requires a force-quit and logout/login to fix. Hopefully, you wont have any of these problems, but this game has "issues."

immersive graphics, beautiful gameplay, affordable. I was hooked from the moment I started.

I bought the original for PC in 2005 and now I play the Mac version with my daughter. She loves it. I still love it. One of the best video games of all time! I wish they would make a sequel. Hint: pair your PS3 controller to your Mac for a truly great experience.

The story is awesome, the graphics are amazing, voice-acting is superb, but the controls are iffy at best and terrible at their worst. In certain areas the game will essentially take away control of Raz (the main character) and not allow you to go in the directions you want to and you have to sort of undermine the games internal logic to make it work. The camera has an annoying tendency to fight against you in some parts, and special powers are easy enough to learn in theory but the execution in gameplay is not so easily done. It took me an hour just to get through the "levitating" tutorial when Im suspecting it was only designed to take 10 minutes or so, and even then I have no real idea as to what I did or how I managed to do it. Auto-locking is a nightmare and has a tendency to flip the screen around like a crazy person.

Originally released for the PS2 and Xbox, Psychonauts is by far the best port on a Mac Ive seen so far. Tomb Raider was good too, but I prefer this game more. The only problem is that my 2010 MacBook Pro heats up too much whenever I play this game. Im currently running OS X Mountain Lion, and this game works just fine with that. The controls are good, but the camera is a little frustrating. I have to constantly adjust it to see where Raz is supposed to go. I wish the camera would automatically adjust. Overall, good game. Psychonauts 2, anyone? (Hint, hint) One more thing: PLEASE MAKE A SEQUEL!!!!!!!!

I like the ideas and the unique story line of this game. It has such an amazing variety of levels and objectives. I love the Matador and Napolean levels. I could do without the few swear words that are in there but overall, its a great game.

An overlooked classic. An amazing story, dialogue and game. This is a testament to the genious of Tim Schafer. Its a complete funny world that has all the style and humor of Grim Fandango and Day of the Tenticle. Its such a pleasure to play such a smart game.

The gameplay is fun and smooth, plus good graphics. It has been crashing. I dont believe its my computer b/c no other apps crash, especially when they are $10. But if fixed, I would play through.

I slogged through the first half hour of this game, which was made up of about 90% completely unskippable, inescapable cutscenes. (Scenes of shrieking malformed children, which certainly didnt help the situation.) And I do mean completely inescapable. Even if I cmd-tabbed away to try to do something else while they played out, the game would "helpfully" pause itself, and insist on playing only while I was actually sitting there watching it. The game might be good, if it were possible to actually get _to_ the game to play. But when I have no idea how much more torture they expect me to sit through before Im allowed to actually reach the game, it is not worth finding out.

All of a sudden my save data has disappeared. I started the application up as usual and it acted as if I were starting a new game. Im not sure where the data went or how I can access it, but I would greatly appreciate if something could be done to fix this! Thanks.

This is THE WORST game Ive ever played on a pc. It goes from boring, idiotic arrowhead quests to impossible and near impossible puzzles/battles. Its as if the makers of this game absolutely hate their gaming customers! The puzzles, quest items, etc. are often so badly designed/placed that youre required to attempt dozens of times before you succeed — do they think stupid and frustrating repetition is fun? It felt like the game was set up to make you keep failing, because the way the camera moves at the last second or some object is in the way so you cant see your destination or whatever,. but when you land after missing there is an arrowhead for you to get. This must mean they knew youd land there! Truly, it feels like a sadists game. There is no way to succeed in one battle with a giant where the actions required cant be done — WASD + space bar + shift key + right-click all while running around on the outside of a cube and trying to find and destroy a machine that will kill the giant! Id need four hands and three pairs of eyes and Id still fail because the giant only needs two steps to MY 200 steps to overcome me and stomp me!

its a great game but from the recent update i lost all of my saved data :(

It really is amazing how they could have broken the game in one update. No testing whatsoever. Cant play my old save games and my gamepad suddenly stopped working (though it does in other games still, so its a Psychonauts-specific issue).

One might think that this game is difficult but personally, all this game needs is the be customized for your hands. The gameplay is fun, the art is phemonial and the plot is entertaining; giving you the feel that this game is a cross between invader zim and pshycics. My only complaint is that I am on the second to last mind (the ladys stage) and I try to deliver the script but the game crashes out of the blue. If they fix that one issue, this game would be flawless.

I LOVE this game so much and although it is an aquired taste, you should try it out. (hint) most of the game is inside other peoples minds. so buy it now. Also--- SAY WHAT!?!? DOUBLE FINE YOU MADE AN MINDBLOWING GAME WITH A MIRACULOUS CLIFFHANGER ENDING-- WHY NOT SUM IT ALL UP IN A SEQUEL??? I wait every day for this to come out on the mac, so why not find someone to give you some fat moneys and go ahead?? anyway thank you so much for the awesome game.
